Our house in the middle of the street.

The Bathroom That Had To Go

It is one thing for a bathroom to be dated, especially with a house some 50 years old, but for a homeowner to install mauve colored, vinyl tile with roses in the center is W R O N G at any point in history. Who installs tiles like this and says "Yeah, tiles with roses was a great idea. This will never be outdated" and just like that, with the finish of that sentence it was in fact, out dated.

This was the worst looking room in the house so we started with it. Along with the rose tiles the builder thought it would be a great idea to have a window in the SHOWER??? Needless to say some major repairs had to be made which involved removing the window and replacing parts of the exterior wall becuase it was just rotted. With that fixed dad and I built some columns on each side of the tub and a set of in wall shelves for the shower surround. Kristin put together the "Hubs & Wiff" mosaic and tiled it up in the backs of the shelves. I installed the plumbing for the new rainfall shower and we put up all the backer board. That stuff is not as easy to cut as they make it look. Definitely not score and snap, more like rut out with a utility knife and break off with a hammer.

Tiling starts today and we should start to see some light a the end of the hall with this project. Kristin and I finished buying all of the pieces needed this past Sunday and we are excited to see it all together!

Tomorrows The Day!

It feels like the last three weeks have painfully crawled by, like watching a snail race in late August heat, but the house closes tomorrow and we couldn't be more excited! We will post up some photos and videos so everyone can get a good look at the house before we start the remodel. Dinner will be served in the empty living room floor around 8:00pm and hammering will begin shortly there after.

Headline Reads: "Door Violence Forces Couple To Move"

Late one night about two months ago there was a party going on upstairs. It was like any other Tuesday night for the neighbors. Excessive drinking, screaming, and a dog that apparently enjoys apartment running. I once again contacted the proper authorities to disperse the crowd up the stairwell. Moments later I hear more yelling but this time its at me. Soon the door opens and I hear footsteps down the stairs. It is close to 3 in the morning so they probably think I've gone to bed but that isn't the case. I'm standing by the door, mag lite in hand, looking through the peep hole. Sure enough two ignorant, drunk college guys lumber up to the door. I assumed they were gonna knock but they thought it would be a better idea to urinate on the door. They proceed with the plan and I wait patiently for the guy to assume the position then fling the door open, mag lite and foul language fly, sailors blushed out on the Atlantic. I closed the door thinking I have never been this mad at someone. I walked back into the bedroom, talk of the sea following me, and finish with, "Kristin, were moving."

Cut to now....

We began looking for houses days after the incident and as of next Friday we will be closing on our first home! We are really excited to be moving away from apartment life and becoming home owners. The house is a 1950's brick home with a creek (I like to think of it as a moat) running through the back yard. The house needs some updating but that is also one of the reasons we bought it. This blog is for everyone to check up on us and see the progress of the remodel as we take on our new role as  homeowners.
